First Day at Home - April 5, 2020
First day home. Last night I reset the time on my alarm clock. Daylight Savings time started while we were gone. I must have hit the alarm and it went off at 6:00. I just kept hitting buttons until it stopped. Not the best way to start the day. I went back to sleep and Rob got up at some point. We had been gone long enough he had forgotten the steps for his new coffee maker.
Before we got home Douglas and Michelle did grocery shopping for us. We have milk, eggs, cottage cheese, lettuce and bread. Douglas also dumped the ice in our ice maker so that I had fresh and stocked our fridge with Coke Zero.
OK, get up, there is a lot to do. We have four weeks of laundry to take care of and suitcases to unpack. I did a couple of interviews and answered part of my email. We start on the pile of mail. Amazing how much of it can be dumped without looking at it.
I get a nice hot cup on chai and then eat my cottage cheese standing on the screened porch. It is about 50 degrees out but I do not care. I enjoy the fresh air and listening to birds sing. Back to reality, keep unpacking.
Douglas brings our car back. He rings the door bells, leaves the keys on a chair and gets in his car. We are following the CDC guidelines of self quarantine for 14 days. I do not know if we have/are carrying anything but I would not want to give anything to anyone. I would rather be safe than sorry. Also to be honest we will probably still not see them in person until this is over. We are at as much of a risk from them as they are from us. I stand at the door and wave. Douglas and Michelle wave and the kids wave. It was great to see them again. We will be doing virtual visits.
I went out to get the mail with my face mask on and a Lysol wipe in my hand. Is this our new normal?
Rob spent the day trying to figure out the medical bills that came in while we were gone. He is tired and his back really hurts. This is not going well.
It was nice to be able to choose what we wanted to eat for meals. Nothing exciting, soup for lunch and a frozen pizza for dinner, but we got to choose. I also had a big glass of cold milk. It is the little things I tell you.
We finish laundry and start to watch some of the shows that we missed while we were gone. At least I get Rob to sit down for a while.
I want to thank everyone who kept us in their thoughts and prayers. Huge thanks to Victoria who knew how to work social media and kept the story out there. She helped to put a face to the story so that we were not forgotten. I tell you if you need a PR person she is awesome. Thank you to Douglas and Michelle for taking care of things at the house, coming up with the plan to get us home from the airport and making sure that we had fresh food. Thank you to the prayer warriors of St Barnabas and St Ann's in Memphis. Thank you to everyone who sent us good thoughts. Thank you to the North and South Zone of Artistic Swimming for your prayers and good thoughts. Thank you to my wonderful cat sitters, Judy, Mary, Karen and Pam for taking care of my fur babies even when Baron leaves you surprises on the floor. Thank you to all of you for coming on another Anderson Adventure and for your encouraging words when I was not at my best. Thank you to those who have offered to get groceries for us. I may be taking you up on this as we get back in the swing of things.
We will now be quarantined for 14 days to protect everyone. I hope that everyone understands. This is for everyone's good. Actually all of us should quarantine. Stay safe, stay healthy and stay away from everyone.
