Anderson South American Adventure Day 1 Part 1, "Yes, We are Really Doing This." March 4, 2020

We set the alarm for 6:00 am and both were out of bed by 5:30. I pretty much had everything packed, except for those last minute things that you need until you actually leave. We had lists, my lists were broken into lists and everything was checked off. There were a few more things, one more lip balm, eh, better make it two. My ankle had been acting up, I have several different ankle braces/wraps, go find one. Oh, I remember this one, I wrap my ankle up and it feels much better. We both take one more shower since it will be over 24 hours before we can again. Finish off the milk, cottage cheese and yogurt. Send a note to someone to take the unused eggs. The cats are fed, six, yes SIX litter boxes are set up for them. There are four different cat sitters lined up to take care of them. Thank you Judy for scheduling this. We have arranged a ride to the airport. About 3 weeks ago we discover that our flight to JFK is leaving an hour earlier than originally scheduled. We contact our airport transport. Um, yeah, he is taking someone else to the airport that morning and would not be back in time to get us there, can we go earlier. Sure, why not. He will only charge us 1/2 of the fare since we were splitting the ride. OK, even better. I question how he is going to fit us, our luggage for 5 weeks and the other person into his car. No, problem he can do it. The other person is one of those "how little luggage can I travel with?" types. He is also going overnight. We have all of our luggage lined up on the side of the driveway. He pulls up, Yup, this could be interesting. He and Rob struggle and get most of it in. I have the two personal items on my lap, Rob has a carry on bag on his lap. I've done worse. We checked into our flight to JFK yesterday. We thought that it was a one stop flight, why does this only have us going to JFK. We really want to go to EZE - Buenos Aires? We have checked bags. There is now a luggage fee for flying to South America, unless you bought your ticket before January 28, which we did. Since our ticket looks as if we are just domestic will they charge? Will they charge to South America and will we have to fight? Rob had tried to check in for the second flight at home but it said that his passport number was invalid. We get to the counter for American, hand her the passports, put luggage on the scales and everything is fine. Nice to not start the trip with a fight. Now we are sitting at our gate. The flight before ours was changed because "a passenger on the previous flight put his carryon in the overhead and broke the latch. It will take up to an hour to fix it." They then re-routed those who had to be there for another flight. So glad that I was not on that flight, even happier that I was not the person who broke the overhead. We have more than another hour before our flight. I think that I will start to read for a while. To be continued.....
